The Mos Eisley cantina is full of characters who embody George Lucas’s vision of the Star Wars underworld. All the while, the shady characters of the cantina have a much simpler - but deadlier - goal in life. But this line shows the audience that there are other things going on in the galaxy than just the Empire versus the Rebels.Ĭharacters like Darth Vader attempt to gain power and control over the galaxy, while Princess Leia and the Rebels attempt to steal and destroy that power from the corrupt Empire. And that Evazan himself has the death sentence on 12 systems, which at first seems like something he shouldn’t brag about. Looking to cause a fight due to his drunkenness, Evazan tells Luke that he and his Aqualish compatriot Ponda Baba are both wanted men.
Cornelius Evazan also hints at how wide the galaxy is after bumping into Luke in the cantina. Wuher isn’t the only character in the Mos Eisley cantina who has more going on in his life than what meets the eye. What was originally a throwaway line by Wuher in A New Hope continues to inspire the creation of other Star Wars characters today. In fact, much of Mando's backstory is actually similar to Wuher in that they both lost their family to battle droids during the Clone Wars. This attribute was unique to his character at the time, and later, the Mandalorian shares his hatred for droids.
One of the first conflicts in the Mos Eisley cantina is when the bartender, Wuher, tells Luke that C-3PO and R2-D2 need to wait outside because he doesn’t serve droids.
